Phyllis moved from North Carolina to Sisters in 2014 following the death of her husband here in 2009. Her plan was to retire, play with grandchildren and maybe learn to quilt. But God had other plans. After years as a missionary in Alaska with a Bible camp and in children’s ministry, she found herself in a new season of life. Here she found joy in reaching out to other widows, the homeless, and women who needed a friend or a listening ear.
Phyllis joined the Vast staff in March 2016 continuing to do all the things she is passionate about- leading Bible studies, hosting groups at her home, connecting with and praying for women. If you ask her what her favorite pastimes are she would say studying God’s word, sharing tea with ladies, praying, reading, and decorating. She considers herself blessed by God to be able to serve Him doing all the things she loves.
One thing Phyllis doesn’t like is sitting on the sidelines. Her desire is to be a living sacrifice acceptable to God until she is physically unable or He takes her home. Her favorite song is “I Refuse” by Josh Wilson and some of her favorite verses are Romans 12:10-13.
