Vast Church exists to make disciples for the Glory of God and the joy of all peoples.
Vast Church is all about fulfilling the Great Commandment (Matthew 22:37-39) “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind” and the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20) “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” To effectively do this, we need to:
- Welcome everyone who happens to COME through our doors regardless of where they are in their relationship with Jesus and regardless of the unresolved sin of their life. People need to feel they belong before they believe. We want to embody a culture that invites anyone from any background and help him or her come face to face with Jesus Christ.
- Help people GROW by providing tools for those who have been entrusted to our body to mature in their walk with Christ. Everyone is somewhere different in the sanctification continuum and each has a “next” step to take. That will look very different for every person, but each step is crucial in becoming a disciple. Ways to foster growth include: classes that promote understanding of scripture, Biblical sermons that foster growth, and Biblical community.
- Encourage people to GO out from our body — locally (into our neighborhoods) and globally (into our world) in order to fulfill the Great Commission. This will mean battling against comfort and our innate human desire to accumulate and protect. The key is living in a constant state of healthy tension and always being willing to respond — between having “made it”/having our worldly needs taken care of and stretching ourselves too far.
