Vast Church was officially formed early in the fall of 2011. Prior to that, we spent a few hot, dusty months meeting in a hay canopy outside Sisters, here in Central Oregon, under the name Red Canvas. We spent time searching our hearts and seeking what God wanted to do with this new organization. As a result, we settled on the name Vast – not because we’re big (far from it), but because God is. We are a Bible-based church that believes both in the inerrancy of scripture and the profound errancy of the human heart. Simply put, we are all sinners. All of us. You, our leadership, the guy writing these words and every other human being ever created. Except Jesus. And it is him we seek to know and follow more deeply as we live together in a community of transparency, openness, honesty and truth. All are welcome here. We don’t believe people should feel they have to be good enough to show up at our doors. Quite the opposite, in fact. We all face challenges, struggles, hurt, pain, temptation and failure. But only by meeting together, living in community and exploring the love of Jesus – as well as what he did for us on the cross – can we endure, heal, thrive and discover true joy.
